This little plein air was done two days into a Gila National Forest loop from the Cliff Dwellings up the west fork of the Gila River to Hell's Hole, up across the ponderosa plateau (where Prior Cabin sits by Prior Creek), then down to the East Fork of the Gila River, looping back to the cliff dwellings again. Cold, high (30"), snowmelt water on both forks (May 2023) and a weaving riverine trail made for dozens of dicey river crossings. Prior Cabin is up high and dry, and we arrived just in time for a golden hour session with my new homemade ultralight Trek pod (Etsy)/toy box (Goodwill)/tablet holder pochade. Funny how adversity can boost creativity.
